Remember live events? We do, and we miss them!
It’s overwhelming to hear of so many monumental events being postponed or cancelled across the Gold Coast and Australia. We really feel for our friends in the events world, not to mention all the businesses and eager punters affected by these continued changes. That being said, some events have been able to go ahead in recent times and have proven successful, so we are hopeful that future events will be able to move forward in the same direction.
After recently moving offices and coming across a box FULL of old media passes, The Edit Suite team decided to compile a list of the top ten events we’ve been involved in over the years. Our collection of photos and videos featured here brought back loads of memories and so we hope reading about these experiences brings you a little nostalgia or hope for future events!
In no particular order, here are some of our favourite gigs of all time:
Gold Coast Film Festival

For the last 5 years, we’ve worked with the festival on producing a range of engaging video content including pre-festival promotions, teaser trailers, highlight videos and special event coverage for events like SIPfest, Screen Industry Gala Awards and Women in Film. Our team thrives when collaborating with local legends so we’re stoked to have developed such a great relationship with the team at GCFF. We’ve witnessed the festival’s growth over the years and cannot wait to see what they bring us in 2022!
Burleigh Brewing Keg Jump

The annual keg jump event at Burleigh Brewing is one of our favourite events to film at and if we weren’t there to work, we’d be in the crowd for sure! If you’ve not heard of the keg jump before, it’s pretty self explanatory; a bunch of pro skaterboarders compete against each other to jump over multiple kegs lined up next to each other. Currently the jump record is 11 kegs long! As well as producing highlight videos for both events (2019 and 2021), this year we also delivered an action-packed live stream of the competition. The multi-angled broadcast was ideal for the skate fans watching at home as well as the onsite spectators who wanted a closer view from the big screen. With locally brewed beer with raw skate talent, there’s no way the keg jump wasn’t making it onto our top ten list!
Gold Coast Music Awards

Every year we look forward to getting together with the Gold Coast Music Awards team to create fresh digital content for the event. The Edit Suite team is made up of avid local music lovers and our way of supporting the local music scene and the Awards is by contributing our services each year through an ongoing partnership. The GCMA team is always so flexible in allowing us to explore our creativity so we can produce the best content possible whether its presentation graphics, virtual experiences or event highlight videos. This year’s event is taking place in just three weeks’ time at Home of the Arts and our team can’t wait! Tickets and live stream registration available here.
Cooly Rocks On

One of the most unique events on the Gold Coast! The streets of Coolangatta are bustling with energy and excitement for the iconic Cooly Rocks On every June. With plenty of dancing, cars, and Rock n Roll to go around, we’re never short of something fabulous to film. We were so thrilled to be back on board this year’s festival with Major Events Gold Coast who delivered a highly memorable experience for all who attended despite the challenging circumstances. We had two roaming production teams at the event each day plus an onsite editing station to be able to deliver a same-day highlight video, as seen below.
Big Day Out 2012

We feel old writing this because Big Day Out is no longer (RIP) but we will never forget working at this iconic music festival thanks to Slam Skateboarding. Though it wasn’t actually the music we were there to film. Josh, our Director, was excitedly stationed at the Vert Ramp aka ‘Skate Stage’ with Tony Hawk to capture the skate show in all its glory! The 40-foot wide, 14-foot high custom-built ramp had national and international skate talent shredding for audiences alongside a huge lineup of live music acts, so people could get their music fix and sporting fix in one hit! Seeing performances from Kayne West, Hilltop Hoods and My Chemical Romance from the top of a giant half pipe seems like a far cry from today but nonetheless created some epic memories we won’t soon forget.
JLO

You better believe we followed Jennifer Lopez around Australia and Asia to film at the Dance Again tour! We got to create highlight videos of all the advertisements featured on the big screens at each concert within the Asian pacific region. With JLO’s shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore, we certainly moved around but would do it again in a heartbeat because Love Don’t Cost a Thing (pun intended). We’re blushing as we recall this but we did indeed meet the one and only Jenny from the block. Being backstage not once felt unnerving as the whole crew were so nice and welcoming and this made our job that much more enjoyable.

FESTIVAL 2018 | Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games

This is definitely one we’ll be telling our grandkids about. What an opportunity it was to be the dedicated video crew for daily highlights of The Games in the lead up to and during the event (not to mention in our own home city)! We had involvement in many of the Games’ cultural events and community initiatives with some of our favourite memories being from Festival 2018 and Mick Fanning’s Surf School, both featured below. It was an action-packed couple of weeks with three teams on the ground every day capturing the magic of competitive sports which lead to us winning the Games 2018 Award in the Destination Gold Coast Content Awards as well as best GC2018 Photography in the 2018 Maccas Awards. Queensland’s potential to host international sporting events has been recognised and we believe GC2018 helped pave the way for what’s to come at the Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympics.
Street Machine Summernats

A few years back, we hit up Australia’s wildest horsepower party, Summernats. Held in Canberra annually, this 4-day event boasts an impressive range of car competitions, exhibitions, but most importantly the burnout events. Naturally, our cameras gravitated towards the cars themselves but there was a lot more to showcase from the festival like the unique breed of punters, live acts live Hilltop Hoods and multi-coloured burnout smoke.

Pacific Fair Redevelopment

The revamp of the iconic Pacific Fair Shopping Centre was huge for the Gold Coast! We were lucky enough to work with their incredible marketing team to film and photograph multiple aspects of the project over two years including the expansive centre renovations and shop fit-outs, but the stand out for us was the organised events. Covering the main launch event (featured below), boutique store openings and the unveiling of The Resort was an exciting and gratifying experience for The Edit Suite team. The well-executed rollout of events gained so much traction for the shopping centre and we’re thankful to have been involved in such a successful campaign.
Monster Jam 2016 International

It doesn’t get much more exhilarating (or loud) than this. Trucks titled Alien Invasion, Pirate’s Curse and Grave Digger battled it out on the track with a series of insanely cool stunts and we were there to film all of the action! Our cameras were rolling as these beasts, weighing close to 5,500kgs, literally launched themselves in the air for a crowd whose reaction was just priceless. We produced the below hype reel for the event and several driver profile videos. Even if you’re not a fan of monster trucks or motorsports in general, we would 100% recommend attending a Monster Jam event at least once in your lifetime.
This was a tough list to produce as we’ve participated in so many epic events, all worth writing about, but ain’t nobody got time to read our top 100. Despite the current uncertain landscape of events, we are eager to get back out there and be a part of more unique and memorable experiences across Australia and (hopefully one day soon) the world. Here’s to filling more boxes full of media passes and memories!
